As a family we have always championed for Arline to be included in everything her peers are doing because she is Abled not Disabled! When she asked us why she could not have a job like everyone else (she would need one on one supervision to be successful and a ton of checking in) we did not know what to say. How do you tell a kid that has been told you can do anything, just differently, that she can't work like her peers?! Needless to say we were a little sad that we were going to have to tell her that this might be the thing that she has to wait to be like other kids.
After one sleepless night, we came up with a plan! If we could make her a job then that would solve the problem. After talking it over between us we decided that this won't be easy but it will be worth it. We decided to look at things that Arline enjoys to see what we could make a job out of.
She enjoys: baking, basketball, movies, talking with people, and of course CUPCAKES!.
Here we are with Arline & Co Cupcakes! Our goals are to teach her daily living skills and that she can do it, even if it is a different path than everyone else.
When you buy a cupcake from Arline & Co, know that you are helping her with a dream! The dream of having a job.
